World Bank approves $700m for private investment and jobs in Jordan
Jordan · 8 weeks ago
On 30 June 2026 the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved a $700m loan to Jordan under the Jordan Growth and Competitiveness Development Policy Financing II, aimed at turning economic stability into stronger private investment and more and better jobs.
The programme is built on improving business conditions, expanding finance for firms and entrepreneurs, and the green and digital transitions. Programme documents set 2028 targets including 20 newly reformed priority-sector licences and $150m of private capital enabled through renewable generation, transmission projects and mining concessions.
Jordan has maintained macroeconomic stability in a difficult regional environment, recording real GDP growth of 2.8% in 2025 and receiving in 2024 its first sovereign credit rating upgrade in over two decades, sustained again in 2025.
