World Bank flags import disruption and food inflation in Iran

Iran · 21 weeks ago

The World Bank's April 2026 economic update reports economic activity in Iran severely disrupted by conflict, economic sanctions and social unrest.

Food price inflation reached a historical high of 99% year on year in February 2026.

The report notes that sustained increases in energy prices are generating inflationary pressure through higher production costs and food prices, with effects extending well beyond the areas of direct conflict.
