Qatar · 29 weeks ago

Reports on 6 February 2026 said Japan's Mitsui & Co was close to buying a stake in the second phase of Qatar's North Field project, known as North Field South, as it seeks stable liquefied natural gas supply.

The phase adds 16 million tonnes per annum at a cost of about $17.5bn. The North Field project overall is expected to lift QatarEnergy's LNG output by around 64% to 126 million tonnes a year by 2027, from 77 million now. QatarEnergy holds 75% of North Field South, with TotalEnergies and Shell on 9.375% each and ConocoPhillips on 6.25%.

The report rests on sources and was not confirmed by either company: QatarEnergy did not respond to a request for comment and Mitsui declined to comment.
