Libya begins trial operation of a gas pipeline stalled for 16 years

In April 2026 Libya's National Oil Corporation began trial operations on a gas pipeline of around 130km and 42 inches in diameter, after the project had been stalled for 16 years.

The line connects the Intisar A/103 field to the Brega gas distribution network, targeting infrastructure bottlenecks that had forced production shutdowns across eastern fields by eliminating "back pressure" in the system.

Its headline objective is recovering roughly 150 million cubic feet a day of gas previously lost to flaring. It forms part of the NOC's push to raise gas production to 1 billion standard cubic feet per day and expand export capacity to Europe via the Greenstream pipeline to Italy by the early 2030s.
