Kuwait prepares tenders for the Durra field project

In February 2026 Kuwait's oil minister, Tariq Al-Roumi, said he expected tenders for the Durra field project, developed jointly with Saudi Arabia, to be issued during the year. He described the project as "very large", delayed but facing no obstacles, with tenders "of all kinds" to come.
Durra was discovered in 1967 and is estimated to hold roughly 20 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 310 million barrels of oil. Development targets completion in 2029, with expected output of 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day. A $3.3bn tender has been floated for the field's gas processing facility.
By February at least seven companies had registered interest, among them South Korea's Samsung E&A, India's Larsen & Toubro, Spain's Técnicas Reunidas, Italy's Saipem, South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Engineering, and Japan's JGC.
