IMF staff-level agreement with Egypt could unlock $1.6bn

Egypt · 8 weeks ago

On 29 June 2026 the IMF reached a staff-level agreement with Egypt on the seventh review under the Extended Fund Facility and the second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, potentially unlocking about $1.6bn once the executive board approves.

The agreement would make available about $1.5bn under the Extended Fund Facility and around $136m under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, bringing total disbursements under the arrangements to roughly $7.2bn.

The Fund described fiscal performance as strong, with Egypt exceeding its primary balance and tax revenue targets by end-March and the primary surplus projected to rise to 5% of GDP in fiscal 2026/27 from 4.8% in 2025/26. It stressed that swift implementation of the State Ownership Policy, including faster divestment of state assets, is critical to supporting private sector-led growth.
