EBRD expands its MSME financing lines in Egypt

Egypt · 5 weeks ago

Through 2026 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has continued channelling facilities to micro, small and medium enterprises in Egypt via local financial institutions — the route by which this financing actually reaches small companies.

In July 2026 the bank approved a $100m loan to Banque Misr for MSMEs, with a focus on women-led businesses and support for environmental projects, and extended a $15m facility to GlobalCorp for Financial Services to expand its MSME leasing and factoring book for clients outside Cairo.

These followed a $50m financing package to National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt in March 2026, including $20m under the EBRD's Youth in Business programme supported by EU funds, and a facility of up to EGP 250m to Fawry MSME Finance in April 2026 for youth-led enterprises.
